Parents for Peace at Iftar: Turning Reflection into Action
A few nights ago, Myrieme Churchill, Executive Director of Parents for Peace, had the honor of speaking at an Iftar
As a leading expert in the field of violent extremism, Professor Horgan’s visit was both inspiring and energizing for our team at Parents for Peace.
Professor Horgan shared kind words about his visit:
“Less than 24 hours in Boston, but a chance to spend a day with the great folks at Parents for Peace… some of the nicest, most generous people you’ll ever encounter.”
This visit underscores the power of collaboration in advancing our shared mission. Our partnership with Professor Horgan’s lab at Georgia State University—supported by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3)—is a cornerstone of our efforts to prevent violent extremism. Together, we’re exploring innovative, evidence-based approaches to address the root causes of radicalization and support individuals and families affected by it.
Through this collaboration, we’re blending real-world experience with academic research to create more effective prevention and intervention programs. Parents for Peace’s unique perspective—rooted in the lived experiences of former extremists, survivors, and affected families—aligns seamlessly with the cutting-edge work happening in Professor Horgan’s work. Together, we’re working to inform and empower communities, practitioners, and policymakers with the tools and knowledge they need to make a difference.
We’re deeply grateful for Professor Horgan’s partnership and ongoing support. His visit was a testament to the shared commitment to building a future free from hate and violence. At Parents for Peace, we know that the path to prevention starts with collaboration, compassion, and a shared vision for change.
Thank you, Professor Horgan, for spending the day with us and for your invaluable contributions to this critical work. We look forward to continuing our partnership and expanding the impact of our shared efforts! 🌟
