One Year Ago Today: A Tragic Reminder of Unchecked Hate

On this day, one year ago, the world witnessed the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust. The fact that many of our children on campuses greeted the news of that massacre with indifference—or worse, jubilation—is a chilling indication of their vulnerability to the very disease that led to the founding of our helpline.

Unchecked hate consumes everyone—not just the victims, but the perpetrators and their families.

This painful lesson is all too familiar to the families who built Parents for Peace. They witnessed their loved ones destroy their families and their own lives, seduced by manipulative ideologies that promised glory through blind hate and revenge. In response, these families established Parents for Peace to prevent other families from enduring similar tragedies.

Over the years, we’ve helped hundreds of families struggling with the grip of destructive ideologies—from Islamist extremism to far-right and far-left radicalization. These ideologies weaponize grievances, directing hatred at an external enemy—most commonly the Jews. The weaker the psychological immune system, the more vicious the hate, and the more self-destructive the outcome.

History is clear: from Nazi Germany to Soviet Russia, from Cuba to Iran and Gaza, hate left unchecked consumes not just its scapegoats, but entire societies.

But it’s not too late. Let’s stand together against antisemitism in all its forms, and hate in all its forms.
