Parents for Peace Featured in the Boston Globe: Why Prevention Matters

We’re honored to have our letter to the editor published in the Boston Globe, highlighting the critical need for early intervention in extremism prevention.

In response to the Globe’s coverage of extremism in the military, we emphasized that extremism is not just a law enforcement issue—it’s a public health crisis. Through our confidential helpline, we help families recognize the early warning signs of radicalization and support their loved ones before it’s too late.

Our work has shown that extremism is often a response to personal grievances and trauma. Addressing these root causes—rather than just criminalizing behavior after the fact—is essential for long-term prevention. In our letter, we also highlighted the story of Chris Buckley, a former extremist who now works with us to help others leave hate behind. His testimony before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs last year briefly unified a divided committee, showing that real transformation is possible.

The Boston Globe’s publication of our letter underscores the growing recognition of the need for intervention-based solutions. We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and will continue advocating for prevention-first approaches to extremism.
